The prostate gland is a vital part of the male sex organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. Its most paramount job is to first produce and then store a transparent fluid that is an important part of seminal fluid (semen). A sound man's prostate is slightly greater in size than a shelled walnut. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra beneath the bladder. Inflammation of the prostate is a gland that is named prostatitis. There is also a blood evaluation that will measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is normally quite low. Elevated pSA blood results can signal disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be grounds for a doctor to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgery. It has just recently been found that medicines including Docetaxel can be helpful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate gland in men has been compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massage of the prostate either for medical value or strictly for sexual purposes.
