The prostate gland is a vital part of the male sexual organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. Cancer of the prostate gland is one of the most commonplace cancers that strikes elderly males and a leading cause of deaths. Consistent rectal exams are medically recommended to find prostate cancer early. There can be also a laboratory blood evaluation that measures the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, quite low. Raised pSA blood results can highly suggest disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can be grounds for a doctor to investigate even further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even operations. It has just recently been discovered that medications like Docetaxel could be useful in treating prostate cancer.
