The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the male sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate. The prostate gland's main function is to produce and then store a see-through liquid that is a component of seminal fluid. Raised blood PSA results might indicate a disease within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can cause your doctor to investigate more. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has just recently been observed that drugs like Docetaxel can be helpful in the treatment of cancer.
