The prostate is a gland that is an important part of the male sex organs. It is mistakenly known as the prostrate. Its main job is to produce and then store a see-through fluid that is an important part of semen, or seminal fluid. A non-diseased human prostate is a bit heftier in size than a walnut. Elevated test results can highly suggest disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for your physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even operations. It has only recently been observed that drugs like Docetaxel could be helpful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.
