Welcome to this webpage about advanced prostate cancer with metastisis to bone
The prostate gland is part of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. Its primary job is to produce and store a see-through liquid that is a component of seminal fluid. A healthy man's prostate gland is a little bit larger in size than a walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra below the urinary bladder. It is positioned in front of the rectal region and a portion of it can be felt while undergoing the rectal exam.
Inflammation in the prostate is a gland that is called prostatitis. If the prostate becomes too large it can obstruct urine flow, making urination difficult and painful and in severe instances totally impassable. Prostatitis is commonly treated with antibiotic medications, prostate massage or surgical procedures.
In elderly males, the prostate often enlarges to the point where urinating becomes difficult or impossible. This is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It can be treated with the use of medicines or with even operations that removes part of the prostate. One common surgery used in these types of cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR or TURP).
Prostatic gland cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting elderly men and a major cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are recommended to pick up prostate cancer before it spreads. There can be also a blood evaluation that will measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, very low. Elevated pSA blood results might highly suggest disease in the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for a doctor to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or operations. It has recently been detected that medicines such as Docetaxel could be useful in the treatment of cancer.
Stimulation of the prostate in men is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate either for clinical value or for strictly sexual fulfillment.
