The prostate is really a gland that is a component of the masculine sexual organs. It is mistakenly known as the prostrate. The prostate's chief job is to secrete and then store a see-through fluid that is an important part of semen (seminal fluid). A normal human prostate is somewhat larger than a walnut. Prostatic cancer is one of the most commonplace cancers that strikes older-aged males and a leading cause of death. Regular rectal exams are medically recommended to detect prostate cancer in the early stages. There can be also a blood test that will measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, very low. Raised bloodwork PSA results can indicate a disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause your physician to investigate even further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgery. It has just recently been observed that medicines including Docetaxel could be useful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
