Welcome to our site about blood in urine after prostate biopsy
The prostate is a gland that is a component of the masculine sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate. Its most primary function is to first secrete and then store a clear fluid that is a component of seminal fluid (semen). A healthy man's prostate is somewhat larger in size than a shelled walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It is also situated in front of the rectal area and part of it can be felt while undergoing the rectal examination.
Inflammation in the prostate is a gland that is referred to as prostatitis. If the prostate becomes too enlarged it can block urine flow, making urination very painful and difficult and in extreme situations totally impossible. Prostatitis is treated with antibiotic medications, prostate massage or even operations.
In older men, the prostate often enlarges to the point where urinating is difficult. This is termed benign prostatic hyperplasia, commonly termed BPH. It can be treated with the use of prescription medications or with surgical measures that removes part of the prostate. One commonplace surgery used in these types of cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP or TUR).
Cancer of the prostate gland is one of the most common cancers to strike older males and a major cause of deaths. Consistent rectal exams are highly recommended to pick up prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also also a laboratory blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Raised test results might signal disease inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause your doctor to investigate more. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical measures. It has just recently been noted that drugs such as Docetaxel can sometimes be useful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.
Stimulating the prostate gland in males is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or milking refers to massage of the prostate whether for clinical or strictly sexual fulfillment.
