The prostate is part of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. There can be also a blood evaluation that will measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, very low. Raised bloodwork PSA results may signal disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for a physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical measures. It has recently been discovered that medicines like Docetaxel could be useful in treating a cancerous prostate.
