The prostate gland is a vital component of the sex organs of the male. It is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. The prostate's paramount function is to secrete and then store a transparent fluid that is an important part of seminal fluid (semen). Elevated blood PSA results may highly suggest disease inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead your physician to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has recently been noted that medications like Docetaxel may be helpful in the treatment of cancer.
