The prostate is a gland that is part of the male sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. Its overriding role is to secrete and then store a see-through fluid that is a vital component of semen, or seminal fluid. A sound human's prostate gland is somewhat bigger than a walnut. Prostate cancer is one of the most frequent cancers affecting elderly men and a leading cause of death. Regular rectal exams are highly recommended to discover prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also also a laboratory blood evaluation that can measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, very low. Elevated blood PSA results might signify disease in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead your physician to investigate even further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgery. It has just recently been detected that medications including Docetaxel can sometimes be useful in treating a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate gland in males is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful experience of orgasm.
