The prostate is really a gland that is a vital part of the masculine sex organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate. Elevated bloodwork PSA results may be an indicator of disease inside the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for a doctor to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has just recently been detected that medicines such as Docetaxel are useful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
