The prostate is really a gland that is part of the masculine sexual organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate. There is also a laboratory blood evaluation that can measure the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which can be normally very low. Raised pSA blood results could indicate a disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for your doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has only recently been discovered that medicines including Docetaxel may be helpful in treating cancer.
