The prostate is a gland that is an important part of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. The prostate gland's main job is to first secrete and then store a transparent fluid that is a vital part of seminal fluid or semen. A sound man's prostate gland is a bit bigger in size than a shelled walnut. It surrounds the urethra beneath the urinary bladder. Cancer of the prostate is one of the most frequent cancers affecting elderly males and a major cause of deaths. Consistent rectal exams are highly recommended to discover prostate cancer early. There is also a laboratory blood test that can measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which should normally be very low. Raised blood PSA results can be an indicator of disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for a physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even operations. It has only recently been discovered that medicines such as Docetaxel are effective in treating cancer.

Stimulation of the prostate in males is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate either for medical value or strictly sexual fulfillment.
