The prostate gland is a vital component of the male sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate. The prostate's most primary job is to first produce and then store a clear fluid that is a vital component of seminal fluid (semen). The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for a doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures.
