The prostate is a vital component of the male sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate. The prostate gland's most significant job is to first produce and then store a clear liquid that is a vital part of seminal fluid. A normal human prostate gland is somewhat bigger than a walnut. Prostate cancer is one of the most commonplace cancers that affects older men and a major cause of deaths. Regular rectal exams are medically recommended to discover prostate cancer early. There can be also a laboratory blood evaluation that can measure the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be quite low. Elevated pSA blood results might indicate a disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for your doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgical measures. It has just recently been uncovered that drugs such as Docetaxel can sometimes be effective in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.
