There can be also a blood evaluation that can measure the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Raised pSA blood results may indicate a disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead your physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even operations. It has only recently been uncovered that drugs like Docetaxel may be helpful in treating cancer.
