The prostate gland is part of the sex organs of the male. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate gland's overriding job is to produce and store a clear liquid that is a vital component of seminal fluid (semen). A sound human's prostate is somewhat bigger than a shelled walnut. Cancer of the prostate is one of the most frequent cancers affecting elderly men and a leading cause of deaths. Consistent rectal exams are highly recommended to uncover prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also a laboratory blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which can be normally very low. Raised blood PSA results could signify disorder in the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead your physician to investigate even further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical measures. It has only recently been noticed that medications including Docetaxel could be effective in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate in males is frequently compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate whether for clinical or primarily for sexual purposes.
