The prostate is really a gland that is an important part of the sex organs of the male. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate. There is also a blood test that can measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, quite low. Raised blood PSA results may highly suggest disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for your physician to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even operations. It has only recently been detected that drugs like Docetaxel could be helpful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
