The prostate gland is part of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. There is also a lab blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which can be normally very low. Raised test results could indicate a disease in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for your doctor to investigate even further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical procedures. It has only recently been uncovered that drugs like Docetaxel can be useful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.
