Wecome to this site about enlarged prostate and lower back pain
The prostate is really a gland that is a vital component of the sex organs of the male. It is mistakenly called the prostrate. Its paramount job is to produce and then store a clear liquid that is a vital part of semen (seminal fluid). A normal human's prostate gland is somewhat greater in size than a walnut. It surrounds the urethra underneath the urinary bladder. It is also located in front of the rectum and a portion of it can be felt during the rectal exam.
Inflammation in the prostate gland is called prostatitis. If the prostate becomes enlarged too much it can stop up the flow of urine, making urination very painful and more difficult and in severe cases entirely impossible. Prostatitis can often be treated with antibiotic prescription medications, massage of the prostate or even surgical procedures.
In older males, the prostate can grow to the point where urinating is difficult. This is referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia, commonly termed BPH. It can be treated with different types of medications or with even surgery that removes a component of the prostate. One common operation used in these types of cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TURP or TUR).
Prostatic gland cancer is one of the most commonplace cancers that affects older-aged men and a major cause of deaths. Regular rectal exams are medically recommended to pick up prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also also a blood test that measures the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, quite low. Elevated bloodwork PSA results may be an indicator of disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for a physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even operations. It has recently been found that medications such as Docetaxel can sometimes be effective in treating cancer.
Stimulating the prostate gland in males is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate whether for clinical value or just for sexual fulfillment.
