This page is about enlarged prostate and sexual frequency

The prostate gland is a vital component of the male sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate. Its leading job is to produce and store a clear liquid that is an important part of seminal fluid. A non-diseased human prostate is a little bit bigger than a walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra below the bladder. It is also positioned in front of the rectal area and a portion of it can be felt during the course of the rectal part of the exam.

Inflammation of the prostate is a gland that is named prostatitis. If the prostate becomes enlarged it can stop the urine stream, making urination difficult and painful and in severe situations entirely impassable. Prostatitis can often be treated with antibiotic drugs, prostate massage or surgical measures.

In older-aged men, the prostate can enlarge to the point where urination becomes difficult or impossible. This is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. It can be treated with the use of medicinal drugs or with even operations that removes a portion of the prostate. One commonplace surgical procedure used in these types of cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TURP or TUR).

Cancer of the prostate is one of the most frequent cancers that strikes elderly males and a major cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are medically recommended to discover prostate cancer early. There can be also a blood evaluation that measures the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, quite low. Raised test results may highly suggest disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead a doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even surgery. It has recently been detected that medications including Docetaxel are helpful in treating a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate in men has been compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate either for health-related or strictly sexual purposes.
