The prostate is a gland that is a component of the masculine sexual organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate. The prostate's most significant job is to first secrete and then store a see-through liquid that is a vital part of semen (seminal fluid). There is also also a laboratory blood test that will measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which should normally be very low. Elevated pSA blood results may signal disease within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for a doctor to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even operations. It has just recently been observed that medicines including Docetaxel can be useful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
