There is also a laboratory blood evaluation that measures the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is normally very low. Elevated bloodwork PSA results can be an indicator of disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause your physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has only recently been noted that drugs like Docetaxel may be useful in the treatment of cancer.
