The prostate is part of the male sex organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. Its leading role is to first secrete and then store a clear fluid that is a vital part of seminal fluid or semen. A healthy human's prostate gland is somewhat bigger than a shelled walnut. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for a physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even operations. It has recently been found that medicines like Docetaxel can be helpful in treating a cancerous prostate.
