The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the masculine sex organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate. The prostate gland's leading job is to first produce and then store a transparent fluid that is a component of semen, or seminal fluid. Elevated test results may signal disease inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead a physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has just recently been discovered that medicines including Docetaxel are helpful in treating cancer.
