The prostate is part of the male sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. There is also also a laboratory blood test that measures the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Elevated blood PSA results can highly suggest disease in the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause a doctor to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical procedures. It has only recently been uncovered that drugs like Docetaxel can be effective in the treatment of prostate cancer.
