The prostate is a vital component of the male sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate's overriding job is to secrete and store a see-through liquid that is an important part of semen, or seminal fluid. A sound human prostate gland is somewhat larger than a walnut. Elevated bloodwork PSA results can suggest disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause your physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has recently been noticed that medicines including Docetaxel can be effective in treating a cancerous prostate.
