The prostate is really a gland that is a vital component of the male sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate. There is also also a blood evaluation that can measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, very low. Raised bloodwork PSA results might be an indicator of disease inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for a doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or operations. It has recently been detected that medicines such as Docetaxel are effective in treating cancer.

Stimulation of the prostate gland in males is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can lead to more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or milking refers to massage of the prostate whether for clinical or strictly sexual purposes.
