The prostate gland is a vital part of the masculine sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. There is also a lab blood test that measures the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is normally quite low. Raised test results can be an indicator of disease in the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can cause a doctor to investigate more. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgery. It has recently been noticed that drugs including Docetaxel can be helpful in treating a cancerous prostate.
