The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the masculine sex organs. It is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. The prostate gland's main function is to secrete and store a see-through liquid that is part of seminal fluid (semen). A normal individual's prostate is slightly bigger than a shelled walnut. Raised blood PSA results could be an indicator of disease inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for a doctor to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even operations. It has just recently been uncovered that medications like Docetaxel are helpful in treating prostate cancer.
