The prostate is really a gland that is part of the sex organs of the male. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. Prostatic cancer is one of the most commonplace cancers that strikes older-aged men and a leading cause of death. Consistent rectal exams are highly recommended to find prostate cancer early. There is also a lab blood test that can measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which should normally be very low. Elevated blood PSA results may signal disorder inside the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause a physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgical measures. It has recently been discovered that drugs including Docetaxel may be helpful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
