The prostate is a gland that is part of the masculine sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate. Its chief function is to first produce and then store a transparent liquid that is a vital component of seminal fluid. A healthy man's prostate is a little bit larger than a shelled walnut. Regular rectal exams are recommended to discover prostate cancer before it spreads. There is also a blood test that can measure the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, quite low. Raised blood PSA results could suggest disorder in the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for your physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even operations. It has just recently been uncovered that medications like Docetaxel can sometimes be effective in treating a cancerous prostate.

Stimulating the prostate gland in men is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can lead to more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate either for medical value or strictly sexual fulfillment.
