The prostate is a vital component of the male sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate. The prostate's leading function is to first secrete and then store a see-through fluid that is an important part of seminal fluid. A sound human prostate gland is a bit larger in size than a walnut. Raised pSA blood results could indicate a disease within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead your doctor to investigate even further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical measures. It has recently been noticed that medicines such as Docetaxel can sometimes be helpful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.
