There can be also a blood test that can measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, very low. Elevated test results may highly suggest disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for your physician to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgical procedures. It has recently been noticed that medications such as Docetaxel can be helpful in treating cancer.
