Wecome to this site about prostate cancer bowel problems
The prostate gland is part of the masculine sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. Its leading job is to secrete and then store a see-through liquid that is a vital component of semen (seminal fluid). A normal man's prostate gland is somewhat bigger than a shelled walnut. It surrounds the urethra just below the bladder. It is also positioned in front of the rectum and part of it can be felt during a rectal examination.
Inflammation in the prostate gland is named prostatitis. If the prostate becomes too enlarged it can block urine flow, making urination very painful and more difficult and in very severe instances totally impassable. Prostatitis can usually be treated with antibiotic prescription medications, massage of the prostate or surgical measures.
In elderly males, the prostate often enlarges to the point where urinating is difficult. This is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, commonly termed BPH. It can be treated with medication or with even operations that removes part of the prostate. One commonplace surgical procedure used in such cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TUR or TURP).
Prostatic cancer is one of the most commonplace cancers that affects elderly men and a major cause of dying. Regular rectal exams are medically recommended to uncover prostate cancer before it spreads. There is also a blood test that will measure the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is normally quite low. Elevated blood PSA results may signal disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause a doctor to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgery. It has just recently been uncovered that medications like Docetaxel are useful in the treatment of prostate cancer.
Stimulating the prostate gland in men is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or milking refers to massage of the prostate whether for clinical or strictly for sexual purposes.
