The prostate is really a gland that is a component of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate. Raised pSA blood results could suggest disease within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for your doctor to investigate further. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or surgery. It has only recently been found that drugs like Docetaxel could be useful in treating a cancerous prostate.
