The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the masculine sex organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. The prostate's chief job is to first produce and then store a see-through liquid that is a vital component of seminal fluid (semen). A non-diseased human's prostate is slightly heftier in size than a walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra beneath the bladder. There can be also a laboratory blood evaluation that measures the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Elevated test results might highly suggest disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead a physician to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or even operations.
