The prostate is really a gland that is a vital component of the masculine sexual organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. The prostate gland's most primary role is to secrete and store a see-through fluid that is part of seminal fluid or semen. Raised pSA blood results can signal disease inside the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for a physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has only recently been noticed that drugs like Docetaxel may be helpful in the treatment of cancer.
