Welcome to our site about prostate lump biopsy

The prostate is a vital component of the masculine sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. Its primary role is to secrete and then store a transparent liquid that is a vital part of semen (seminal fluid). A healthy human prostate gland is slightly larger in size than a shelled walnut. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It is located in front of the rectal region and a portion of it can be felt during the course of a rectal evaluation.

Inflammation of the prostate is a gland that is termed prostatitis. If the prostate gets too enlarged it can obstruct the flow of urine, making urination painful and difficult and in severe cases wholly impossible. Prostatitis can usually be treated with antibiotic medications, prostate massage or even surgical procedures.

In older males, the prostate may enlarge to the point where urinating becomes difficult or impossible. This is referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. It can be treated with medicinal drugs or with surgical procedures that removes a component of the prostate. One very typical operation used in such cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP or TUR).

Cancer of the prostate is one of the most frequent cancers affecting older males and a major cause of dying. Regular rectal exams are recommended to pick up prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also a laboratory blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Raised test results can signify disease within the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause your physician to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgical procedures. It has only recently been detected that drugs including Docetaxel can sometimes be helpful in the treatment of cancer.

Stimulation of the prostate in males has been compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate either for medical value or strictly sexual purposes.
