The prostate is really a gland that is part of the masculine sexual organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate, rather than prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for your doctor to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has recently been noted that drugs like Docetaxel can be useful in treating a cancerous prostate.
