This page is about prostate pain during ejaculation
The prostate is a gland that is a vital part of the masculine sex organs. It is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate's primary role is to produce and then store a see-through liquid that is an important part of semen (seminal fluid). A normal man's prostate is somewhat greater in size than a shelled walnut. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra just below the bladder. It is situated in front of the rectum and part of it can be felt during the course of a rectal examination.
Inflammation of the prostate gland is termed prostatitis. If the prostate grows too large it can stop urine flow, making urination painful and difficult and in very extreme instances entirely impossible. Prostatitis is commonly treated with antibiotic medications, prostate massage or operations.
In elderly males, the prostate can grow to the point where urination is difficult. This is referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia, commonly called BPH. It can be treated with different types of medications or with even surgery that removes a component of the prostate. One common operation used in these types of cases is called transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP or TUR).
Cancer of the prostate is one of the most commonplace cancers affecting older-aged men and a leading cause of death. Regular rectal exams are highly recommended to pick up prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also also a blood test that measures the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Raised test results can highly suggest disorder within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for a physician to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgery. It has only recently been noted that drugs including Docetaxel may be effective in the treatment of prostate cancer.
Stimulation of the prostate in men is frequently compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate either for medical value or strictly for sexual fulfillment.
