The prostate gland is a component of the male sex organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate. There is also a blood test that will measure the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is normally quite low. Raised blood PSA results can suggest disorder inside the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for your doctor to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or operations. It has recently been detected that medicines like Docetaxel can be helpful in treating cancer.
