Here is some info about prostate questionswhat to expect after surgery

The prostate is really a gland that is an important part of the sex organs of the male. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. Its main job is to first produce and then store a see-through liquid that is a vital component of seminal fluid or semen. A healthy human prostate gland is somewhat bigger than a shelled walnut. The prostate surrounds the urethra beneath the bladder. It is also positioned in front of the rectal area and part of it can be felt during the course of a rectal exam.

Inflammation of the prostate gland is called prostatitis. If the prostate grows too enlarged it can obstruct the flow of urine, making urination painful and difficult and in extreme instances totally impossible. Prostatitis can often be treated with antibiotic prescription drugs, prostate massage or even surgery.

In elderly males, the prostate may enlarge to the point where urination is difficult. This is called benign prostatic hyperplasia, commonly called BPH. It can be treated with medications or with even operations that removes part of the prostate. One common operation used in these types of cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TUR or TURP).

Cancer of the prostate gland is one of the most frequent cancers that affects elderly males and a leading cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are medically recommended to detect prostate cancer in the early stages. There can be also a laboratory blood evaluation that will measure the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is, in normal men, quite low. Raised blood PSA results could signal disease inside the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or a cancerous prostate. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between them, but can be a reason for your physician to investigate more. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgery. It has only recently been noted that medicines including Docetaxel could be useful in the treatment of a cancerous prostate.

Stimulating the prostate gland in males is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massage of the prostate whether for clinical value or strictly sexual purposes.
