The prostate is a gland that is part of the male sexual organs. The prostate is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. The prostate gland's leading job is to first produce and then store a clear liquid that is a vital part of semen. A non-diseased human's prostate is a little bit greater in size than a walnut. Prostatic gland cancer is one of the most common cancers that strikes elderly males and a major cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are highly recommended to detect prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also a lab blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is, in normal men, quite low. Raised test results might suggest disorder in the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be a reason for a doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormone manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or operations. It has recently been detected that medications such as Docetaxel may be useful in treating a cancerous prostate.

Stimulating the prostate gland in men is frequently compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can result in a more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate whether for health-related or primarily for sexual fulfillment.
