The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the sex organs of the male. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate's most paramount function is to first produce and then store a clear fluid that is a vital component of seminal fluid. A sound man's prostate is a bit heftier in size than a walnut. It surrounds the urethra underneath the bladder. It is also situated in front of the rectal area and part of it can be felt while undergoing the rectal exam.

Regular rectal exams are highly recommended to uncover prostate cancer in the early stages. There is also a laboratory blood evaluation that measures the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which can be normally quite low. Elevated test results may suggest disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead your physician to investigate more. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or operations. It has recently been noted that medications such as Docetaxel may be effective in treating a cancerous prostate.

Stimulation of the prostate gland in males is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can lead to more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate either for health-related or strictly sexual fulfillment.
