The prostate is a vital part of the masculine sexual organs. It is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. Cancer of the prostate gland is one of the most common cancers to affect older-aged men and a major cause of death. Regular rectal exams are medically recommended to pick up prostate cancer early. There is also also a blood test that measures the amount of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which should normally be very low. Raised bloodwork PSA results may be an indicator of disease within the prostate, whether prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or prostate cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead a doctor to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical procedures. It has only recently been noted that medicines like Docetaxel could be effective in treating cancer.

Stimulation of the prostate gland in males is typically compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate either for medical value or for strictly sexual fulfillment.
