The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the masculine sex organs. It is mistakenly known as the prostrate gland. The prostate's most important role is to secrete and then store a transparent liquid that is a vital component of seminal fluid (semen). There is also a blood test that can measure the concentration of a protein, PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen), which is normally very low. Raised bloodwork PSA results might indicate a disorder within the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can lead a physician to investigate more thoroughly. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (preventing testosterone production), radiation or even surgical measures. It has only recently been noticed that drugs including Docetaxel can be effective in treating cancer.

Stimulation of the prostate in men is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can lead to more powerful orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massage of the prostate either for health-related or for strictly sexual purposes.
