The prostate is a gland that is a vital part of the masculine sex organs. The prostate is mistakenly known as the prostrate, rather than prostate. The prostate gland's principle function is to produce and then store a transparent liquid that is a vital component of semen (seminal fluid). Raised pSA blood results could suggest disorder in the prostate, whether prostatitis, bPH or prostate cancer. The PSA blood test cannot distinguish between these conditions, but can be grounds for a doctor to investigate with further tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgery. It has only recently been uncovered that drugs such as Docetaxel can sometimes be helpful in treating prostate cancer.
