Welcome to our site about psa and the prostate and diet
The prostate gland is a vital part of the male sex organs. The prostate gland is mistakenly called the prostrate. The prostate gland's most important role is to first secrete and then store a see-through liquid that is an important part of seminal fluid (semen). A non-diseased man's prostate is somewhat larger in size than a shelled walnut. It surrounds the urethra below the urinary bladder. It is situated in front of the rectum and a portion of it can be felt while undergoing a rectal exam or evaluation.
Inflammation in the prostate gland is known as prostatitis. If the prostate gets too enlarged it can jam up the urine stream, making urination painful and difficult and in very extreme instances completely impassable. Prostatitis can usually be treated with antibiotics, massage of the prostate or surgical measures.
In older-aged males, the prostate can grow to the point where urination becomes difficult or impossible. This is referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. It can be treated with different types of medicines or with even operations that removes a portion of the prostate. One common operation used in such cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TUR or TURP).
Cancer of the prostate is one of the most common cancers to strike elderly men and a leading cause of dying. Consistent rectal exams are highly recommended to detect prostate cancer early. There can be also a blood evaluation that will measure the amount of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be quite low. Elevated pSA blood results could signify disorder inside the prostate, either prostatitis, bPH or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can cause a doctor to investigate more closely. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or operations. It has recently been noted that medications such as Docetaxel can sometimes be effective in treating cancer.
Stimulation of the prostate in males is frequently compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can cause more powerful experience of orgasm. Prostate massage or prostate milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate whether for medical value or strictly sexual fulfillment.
