The prostate is a gland that is a vital component of the male sexual organs. It is mistakenly called the prostrate gland. The prostate gland's leading role is to produce and store a see-through liquid that is a vital part of seminal fluid or semen. A healthy human's prostate is slightly bigger in size than a walnut. One commonplace surgery used in such cases is called transurethral prostate resection (TURP or TUR).

Prostatic gland cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting older men and a leading cause of deaths. Consistent rectal exams are medically recommended to pick up prostate cancer early. There is also a laboratory blood evaluation that measures the concentration of a protein, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which should normally be very low. Elevated test results can highly suggest disease in the prostate, either prostatitis, benign hyperplasia or cancer. The PSA test cannot distinguish between them, but can lead a doctor to investigate with additional tests. Prostate cancer is treated with hormonal manipulation (prevention of production of testosterone), radiation or surgery. It has just recently been discovered that medications like Docetaxel could be effective in the treatment of cancer.

Stimulating the prostate gland in males is often compared to stimulation of the G spot in females because prostate stimulation can lead to more powerful sexual climax. Prostate massage or milking refers to massaging motions of the prostate whether for clinical value or strictly sexual fulfillment.
